Product Description

MRI MACHINE ELECTRICAL PANEL

RuncoN MRI Machine Electrical Panel is a critical component in the power and control infrastructure for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems. It ensures safe, stable, and filtered electrical power to the MRI and its supporting subsystems.

Purpose

  1. Power Distribution: Supplies electrical power to the MRI magnet, gradient amplifiers, RF amplifiers, chiller, and console.
  2. Protection: Includes breakers and surge protection to safeguard sensitive electronics.
  3. Isolation: Reduces electrical noise and ensures patient safety using isolation transformers and filters.
  4. Control: Interfaces with facility systems for Emergency Power-Off (EPO), HVAC interlocks, and system monitoring.

Typical Power Requirements

MRI TypeMain PowerFrequencyNotes
1.5 Tesla~100–150 kVA50/60 Hz3-phase
3.0 Tesla~150–200+ kVA50/60 Hz3-phase, dedicated subsystems
Dedicated Subsystems5–50 kVA50/60 HzFor gradient, RF, cryocooler, etc.

Note: Voltage and frequency depend on the local grid (e.g., 400/230V 50Hz or 480/277V 60Hz).

Main Components

ComponentDescription
Main Breaker / DisconnectIsolates MRI system from facility power.
Surge Protection Devices (SPD)Protects against voltage spikes.
Isolation TransformerProvides electrical isolation and reduces interference.
Power Line Filters (EMI/RFI)Filters electrical noise to prevent image artifacts.
Circuit Breakers and ContactorsProtect individual subsystems (gradient, RF, chiller, etc.).
Emergency Power Off (EPO)Shuts down MRI system safely in emergencies.
Grounding and Bonding SystemEnsures patient and equipment safety; minimizes noise.
Monitoring DevicesFor voltage, current, temperature, and alarms.

Design Considerations

  1. Dedicated Power Feed: MRI must be on an isolated, dedicated circuit.
  2. Stable Power Quality: Voltage fluctuations or harmonics can cause image distortion.
  3. Proper Grounding: Separate RF ground from building ground to prevent interference.
  4. Shielded Cabling: Power and signal lines are shielded to avoid electromagnetic interference.
  5. Environmental Control: Electrical panels are installed in the Equipment Room, separate from the MRI Scan Room due to magnetic field and RF shielding requirements.
