Key Components of a Three-Phase Motor Starter Panel

Every RuncoN Three-Phase Motor Starter Panel is assembled with precision-grade, industry-standard components — engineered to deliver reliable motor control, comprehensive electrical protection, and intuitive operator interfaces for demanding industrial environments.

1
Main Contactor
An electrically controlled switching device that connects or disconnects the motor from the three-phase power supply on command, enabling safe remote operation and repeated start/stop cycles without manual intervention.
2
Overload Relay
Continuously monitors motor current and interrupts the circuit if the motor draws excessive current for an extended period, providing essential thermal protection that prevents winding burnout and motor damage.
3
Circuit Breaker / Fuses
Provides instantaneous protection against short circuits and sustained overcurrent conditions in the panel and motor feeder circuit, isolating the fault rapidly to limit equipment damage and maintain system safety.
4
Control Transformer
Steps down the incoming line voltage (415 V) to a safe, lower control voltage (typically 230 V AC) to power the control circuit components including contactors, relays, timers, and indicator lamps.
5
Push Buttons & Selector Switches
Includes dedicated Start and Stop push buttons along with selector switches for choosing operating modes — Manual, Automatic, or Off — providing intuitive, operator-friendly motor control directly at the panel.
6
Indicating Lamps
Colour-coded visual indicators display the motor's real-time operational status — ON (running), OFF (stopped), or FAULT — allowing operators to quickly assess system condition at a glance without opening the panel.
7
Timer (Star-Delta)
In Star-Delta starter configurations, an adjustable timer automatically switches the motor windings from star connection (reduced voltage start) to delta connection (full voltage) after a preset time, significantly reducing inrush current during startup.
8
Motor Protection Devices
Additional protection relays include phase failure relays, under/over-voltage protection relays, and ground fault protection devices — forming a comprehensive multi-layer protection system that safeguards the motor under all abnormal electrical conditions.

Typical Applications

How a Three-Phase Motor Starter Panel Works
🔌
Step 1 — Power In Three-phase supply enters the panel through the main circuit breaker or fuses, which provide fault protection for both the panel and the connected motor feeder cable.
▶️
Step 2 — Start Command The operator presses the Start button (or an automatic signal triggers), energizing the main contactor coil via the control circuit and closing the power contacts to connect the motor to the supply.
⚙️
Step 3 — Motor Running The motor accelerates to full speed. In Star-Delta configurations, the timer switches windings from star to delta after the preset time, limiting inrush current and reducing mechanical stress on startup.
🛡️
Step 4 — Protection & Stop The overload relay and protection devices continuously monitor motor current and fault conditions. A Stop command or fault trip de-energizes the contactor, disconnecting the motor safely and instantly.
